Update: Layer Groups

Layer Groups let you bundle multiple layers into a single, movable element—perfect for UI parts like buttons that are built from text plus shape. The group behaves as one item for selection and movement, yet remains fully editable.

Key Shortcuts

  • Group: Ctrl+G (Cmd+G on macOS)
  • Ungroup: Ctrl+Shift+G (Cmd+Shift+G on macOS)

Create a Group

  1. Select two or more layers (Shift-click or marquee).
  2. Press Ctrl+G.
  3. A new group appears in the Layers panel; rename it to keep things organized.

Select vs. Edit

  • Select (single click): Click the grouped element once to select, move, or duplicate it as a whole.
  • Edit (double-click): Double-click the grouped element to work on its contents:
    • Change fill or stroke colors of child layers.
    • Edit text values.
    • Resize or reposition child layers.
    • Click outside the group (or select the group in the Layers panel) to exit edit mode.

Duplicate Variations Fast

  • With the group selected, Alt+Drag to create a copy.

Manage Group Membership

  • Reorder: Drag the group up or down in the Layers panel to change draw order.

  • Exclude a layer: Drag a child out of the group in the Layers panel.

  • Re-include: Drag that layer back into the group at the desired position.

  • Nested groups: not supported

Notes & Behavior

  • Code generation: Groups are an editor convenience; exported code emits draw calls for each child in z-order.
  • Alignment: When the group is selected, alignment use the group’s bounding box.

Other Recent Enhancements

  • Hidden layers no longer sneak into bulk actions
  • Alignment tools now respect the group’s bounds for steadier layouts
  • ALT-drag cloning preserves layers orders
  • Batch undo and redo operations now consistent and works as you would expect
